Feldman’s photographic practice, from found, integrated and collected images, is often symbolic of an attitude of appropriation and accumulation. With Two girls, One Clipped, this practice takes the form of subtraction. Like a game, the artist has cut out the silhouette of one of the two girls present in the black and white photograph. As a result, an initially banal scene becomes fantastical, accentuating the subtle game of light and shade in the scene. Paradoxically, however, the disappearance of the girl propagates a greater interest in the apparent figure, who seems to try to physically apprehend a sustainable absence.
